eXoZymes Inc. (NASDAQ: EXOZ) has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission, a nationwide initiative aimed at accelerating scientific discovery through artificial intelligence, according to a press release from the company.

The nine-month project carries total funding of approximately $747,000, with $147,000 awarded directly to eXoZymes. As part of the collaboration, eXoZymes will work with researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, including Dr. Edward Baidoo and Dr. Hector Garcia Martin, to develop AI-powered digital twins for cell-free biomanufacturing processes.

Under the project, eXoZymes will generate experimental datasets from cell-free enzymatic pathways. Dr. Baidoo's team will develop metabolomic workflows to convert those experiments into AI-ready datasets, while Dr. Garcia Martin's team will integrate the data into hybrid digital twin models combining enzyme kinetics, reactor physics, and machine learning.

Dr. Paul Opgenorth, co-founder and VP of Development at eXoZymes, serves as principal investigator for the project. "Our cell-free platform generates exceptionally clean, quantitative datasets because it eliminates many of the biological variables inherent in living-cell systems," he said.

Participating teams receive access to the Genesis Mission Platform, which includes advanced AI models, AI agent frameworks, and high-performance computing resources. The DOE reported that the Genesis Mission received the largest response to a funding opportunity in its history, with 278 projects selected across national laboratories, universities, companies, and nonprofit organizations.

eXoZymes was founded in 2019 and focuses on cell-free biomanufacturing using AI-enhanced enzymes to produce natural products for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical markets.
