Nexstar completes ATSC 3.0 rollout in Cleveland, final major U.S. market

July 23, 2026 10:00 AM

Nexstar Media Group (NASDAQ: NXST) announced the launch of ATSC 3.0, also known as NextGen TV, in the Cleveland, Ohio television market, completing deployment of the next-generation broadcast standard across all top 25 U.S. designated market areas (DMAs).

Cleveland had been the largest remaining market without ATSC 3.0, held back by broadcast spectrum limitations and insufficient station participation. Nexstar's 2024 acquisition of WBNX-TV provided a path forward, as the company contributed the station's spectrum to enable the transition.

ATSC 3.0 supports 4K UHD and HDR picture quality, immersive audio, interactive content, enhanced emergency alerting, and a terrestrial backup to GPS.

"Completing this ATSC 3.0 transition represents a significant milestone in the nationwide transformation of broadcast capabilities and is the first step to bringing a host of benefits to consumers in the Cleveland DMA," said Brett Jenkins, Nexstar's Chief Technology & Digital Officer. He added that NextGen TV also creates opportunities for EdgeBeam Wireless, a Nexstar joint venture, to offer data delivery services for applications including high-precision positioning, digital signage, and public safety.

Viewers in Cleveland can access NextGen TV with a compatible television or external receiver. Existing ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will remain available during the transition period.
