Mistras Group (NYSE: MG) has announced expanded capabilities at its Los Angeles, California laboratory, adding new equipment and services aimed at supporting aerospace and defense manufacturers.

According to a press release, the facility has added welding, grinding, and rework services, along with two CNC machines and vertical turning centers capable of handling parts weighing up to 3 tons. The lab has also installed automated ultrasonic testing systems for plate and bar inspection, and coordinate measuring machine dimensional inspection for component validation.

The Los Angeles lab maintains NADCAP accreditation for non-destructive testing and chemical processing, along with ITAR compliance. The company said the facility is expected to also achieve NADCAP accreditation in welding.

Existing capabilities at the lab include radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, and chemical processing. The facility supports forgings, castings, weldments, composites, and machined products.

"Our customers are looking for trusted lab partners that can help simplify complex production and inspection requirements," said Cliff Schaffer, Senior Vice President of In-Lab Services at Mistras. "These additions bolster the Los Angeles lab's ability to support customers through more stages of the aerospace manufacturing workflow for mission-critical components."

The expansion follows previously announced upgrades to Mistras' Houston, Texas laboratory. The company said additional facility upgrades are planned.
