Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) announced a phased production plan for its Model Year 2027 North American on-highway engines, citing proposed changes to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emissions regulations as a basis for the updated timeline.

The company plans to begin limited production of both its new X15 and X10 engines in January 2027, with full X10 production expected by Q3 2027 and full X15 production expected by Q4 2027. Timing is contingent on individual OEM launch schedules.

During the transition period, Cummins said current-generation engines will remain available. The existing X15 will continue alongside the new platform as production ramps, while the X12 and L9 engines used in truck and transit bus applications will remain available during the X10 transition.

"Our long-term product strategy has not changed," said Jennifer Rumsey, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cummins. "This is about improving the transition, not changing the destination. A phased production ramp will allow us to support customers while building confidence in our new products through real-world operation and maintaining our focus on quality."

Cummins also reaffirmed that its next-generation B platform is on track for a January 2028 launch, with the current B6.7 engine remaining available through 2027. The X10 and X15 are part of Cummins' HELM engine platform family.

The company noted that its updated product plan is based on a preliminary assessment of the EPA's proposed rule and that timelines may be adjusted if the final rule differs materially from the current proposal.
