Liberty Energy and PowerBridge form joint venture for West Texas data campus
Liberty Energy Inc. (NYSE: LBRT) and PowerBridge LLC announced the formation of a joint venture aimed at developing a planned 2 gigawatt powered data center campus in West Texas, according to a press release from the companies.
The joint venture combines PowerBridge's digital campus development assets with Liberty Power Innovations (LPI), a Liberty Energy subsidiary that provides distributed power generation and energy management services. The arrangement is subject to the finalization of additional commercial agreements and regulatory approvals.
The joint venture's initial focus is PowerBridge's Alpha Digital Campus in West Texas. The first phase is expected to include more than 300 megawatts of generation capacity, with a first power delivery date anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2027 and continued deployment through the first half of 2028.
LPI is expected to design, develop, and operate modular power generation systems for the campus, while PowerBridge will provide site infrastructure including electrical systems and a regional fiber conduit network.
"As power availability becomes a defining factor in data center development, customers need integrated solutions that align power generation, energy management, and campus infrastructure planning from the outset," said Ron Gusek, Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Energy.
PowerBridge founder and CEO Alex Hernandez said the venture is intended to serve hyperscale and artificial intelligence customers with an integrated powered campus solution while building new power generation assets.
The joint venture is structured to align ownership, capital investment, and operational responsibilities across both companies. PowerBridge is backed by Five Point Infrastructure and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Liberty Energy is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.
