X-Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: XE) has joined Project Prometheus as a Tier 1 partner, a three-year research initiative led by Idaho National Laboratory alongside Nvidia (Nasdaq: NVDA) and Amazon Web Services aimed at applying artificial intelligence to advanced nuclear deployment.

The U.S. Department of Energy awarded the project $60 million under its Genesis Mission program. The initiative brings together 32 laboratories, universities, and private technology developers with the stated goals of accelerating licensing and construction schedules and reducing operational costs for advanced nuclear technologies.

As a Tier 1 partner, X-energy is contributing $10 million in private capital and board of directors representation. The company is also providing proprietary design and fuel fabrication data from its Xe-100 small modular reactor and TRISO-X fuel for use as a technical research platform. The research will utilize Department of Energy test reactors and supercomputing resources to integrate AI models into reactor design, licensing, manufacturing, construction, and fuel fabrication workflows.

X-energy said it expects to apply research outcomes across its commercial pipeline, which the company states totals more than 11 gigawatts of nuclear capacity under development in the United States and United Kingdom. Active commercial projects include agreements with Dow, Amazon, and Centrica. X-energy and Amazon hold an option to deploy more than 5 GW of nuclear capacity by 2039.

The company also noted it has been developing an internal AI platform called APEX, described as a multi-agentic system deployed across its engineering, licensing, and operations teams, which it says has been used to support routine decision-making and technical analysis.
