Advanced Energy launches 1,100 W PFC module in half-brick form factor
Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) has introduced a new 1,100 W board-mounted power factor correction (PFC) module, the AIH03ZPFC, which the company claims is the first of its kind in a half-brick form factor.
According to a press release, the module delivers up to 97.3% peak efficiency, which the company says represents a 2.3% improvement over its previous-generation PFC products. Power density is rated at 380 W/in³, a 44% increase over prior designs. The company also states the module reduces losses by 46% compared to earlier products.
The AIH03ZPFC features a regulated, non-isolated 390 VDC output and accepts a wide 85 to 264 VAC input range with no power derating under low-input-voltage conditions. The module includes internal inrush limiting, digital PMBus control and monitoring, and auxiliary power support for external housekeeping functions.
The encapsulated design measures 2.4 x 2.3 inches (61 x 58.4 mm) with an installed height of 0.52 inches (13.3 mm). It supports baseplate contact cooling for operation between -20°C and +100°C, with startup capability as low as -40°C. The module is compatible with standard heatsinks and can function as a standalone PFC or alongside downstream DC-DC converters.
Advanced Energy says the product targets industrial, medical, defense, and telecommunications applications. "By combining 1100 W of power with extensive integrated functionality, Advanced Energy's AIH03ZPFC reduces losses by 46% compared to prior designs," said David Richmond, senior vice president of High Volume Products at Advanced Energy.
