Investing.com -- Flynas has placed an order for 25 additional Airbus aircraft, including five A330-900 and 20 A321neo planes, the Saudi low-cost carrier announced Wednesday.

The purchase brings flynas' total commitment for the A330neo to 20 aircraft and its A321neo orders to 56 aircraft. The airline's total firm orders with Airbus now stand at 235 aircraft out of a total orderbook of 280 planes.

Flynas currently operates 67 Airbus aircraft, including two A330-300s, four A320ceos and 61 A320neos. The carrier serves the Saudi market and international destinations from six operating bases across the Kingdom.

Bander Almohanna, chief executive officer and managing director of flynas, said the order aims to ensure sustainable fleet growth to support expansion of the airline's six operating bases and strengthen capabilities for flynas Syria operations. He added the increased orders will help the carrier access new markets and support Saudi Arabia's tourism and travel objectives, including facilitating access to the Two Holy Mosques under the Pilgrim Experience Program.

The additional aircraft will support the airline's operations during major events Saudi Arabia will host, including Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034, Almohanna said.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus executive vice president of sales for the commercial aircraft business, said the order reflects the partnership with one of the region's fastest-growing airlines. The A321neo and A330neo deliver efficiency, performance and passenger comfort while enabling airlines to expand their networks, he said.

The A321neo reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by at least 20% compared with previous-generation aircraft, according to Airbus.
