Array Technologies launches 60-degree solar tracker to counter hail risk
Array Technologies (NASDAQ: ARRY) announced a new 60-degree variant of its DuraTrack solar tracker platform, designed to mitigate hail risk while reducing capital expenditures for solar projects.
The product was introduced at the company's third annual Insurance Forum in Boston, Massachusetts, where representatives from more than 25 insurance companies gathered to discuss severe weather risk in the solar market.
The 60-degree DuraTrack variant combines a 60-degree stow angle with Array's SmarTrack software suite, including Hail Alert Response technology. The company claims a stow execution rate of 99% or higher. The system uses an AC grid-powered motor and wired communications, which Array says offers greater reliability during extreme weather compared to systems that rely on battery power and wireless communications.
The tracker also includes Array's Wind XP passive wind stow technology, which the company says selectively stows only the rows that require protection. Array cited a DNV-validated report indicating the technology can offer an energy yield benefit of up to 4%.
"Adding a 60-degree tracker expands our existing portfolio to give our customers more options for resilient and reliable solutions in hail-prone regions, including Texas and the Great Plains," said Nick Strevel, Chief Product Officer at Array Technologies.
The new variant is available to quote in 2026, with deliveries expected in mid-2027. Array said the product targets projects in moderate hail risk regions and was developed with input from customers and insurance stakeholders.
