Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) has elected Joe DePinto, former president and chief executive officer of 7-Eleven, Inc., to its Board of Directors, according to a company statement. DePinto will join the board on Aug. 1 and serve on the Infrastructure & Finance and Audit & Risk committees.

DePinto spent more than three decades in retail and consumer products, leading 7-Eleven through store expansion, digital investment and changes in consumer preferences. During his time at 7-Eleven, the company grew its omnichannel capabilities, loyalty programs and fresh food offerings. He has also held leadership roles at PepsiCo and GameStop, and has served on the boards of Brinker International, Jo-Ann Stores and OfficeMax.

Target CEO Michael Fiddelke said in the statement that DePinto's experience in retail, food and digital commerce would benefit the board. "His perspective and experience in retail, with a particular emphasis in food and digital commerce, will be a tremendous asset to our Board as we continue building momentum against our strategy," Fiddelke said.

Christine Leahy, Lead Independent Director of Target's Board of Directors, said DePinto's background in omnichannel innovation aligns with the company's strategic priorities.

Target operates more than 2,000 U.S. stores and employs more than 400,000 people.
