Pratt & Whitney, a unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tigerair Taiwan to supply GTF engines for 15 Airbus A321neo aircraft, comprising four firm orders and 11 leased aircraft, according to a press release issued at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The agreement includes a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive services contract covering engine maintenance. Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.

Tigerair Taiwan currently operates nine Airbus A320neo family aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and nine Airbus A320ceos powered by IAE V2500 engines. The airline, which describes itself as Taiwan's first and only low-cost carrier, began operations in 2014.

"Pratt & Whitney has been a trusted partner since we began operations in 2014," said Joyce Huang, chairperson of Tigerair Taiwan. "Our new A321neo fleet, powered by the GTF engine, will advance our next phase of growth, as we continue to serve more passengers across more destinations with a lower cost per seat."

Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, said the order reaffirms Tigerair Taiwan's trust in the company, which he said exclusively powers the airline's fleet.

Pratt & Whitney states the GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the prior engine generation. The company reports more than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are in service globally with more than 90 customers, and that its GTF engine order backlog exceeds 8,000 units.
