Investing.com -- Intel confirmed Tuesday it is planning job cuts within its data center group as part of a broader strategy to become a more focused and efficient company, according to a report from Business Insider.

The chipmaker said the data center group is realigning its organization to ensure it has the right roles and skills in place to position the business for long-term success. Intel said it is committed to treating all impacted employees with respect and providing resources to support them through the transition.

The company did not disclose how many employees would be affected by the layoffs.

A person familiar with the matter said the changes would not affect the data center group’s product commitments and roadmaps and should help to better streamline the business.

The job cuts continue a pattern of workforce reductions at Intel in recent years. Last year, the company laid off at least 15% of its factory workers, affecting more than 5,000 employees across four US states.

In August 2024, Intel announced more than 15,000 job cuts as part of a plan to deliver $10 billion in cost savings for 2025.
