Overroute, an AI-focused freight technology startup, has announced its public launch after approximately one year of development alongside J.B. Hunt Transport Services (Nasdaq: JBHT), with its AI agents now in use across all of J.B. Hunt's business units.

The platform deploys AI agents designed to automate coordination tasks behind freight loads, including managing exceptions, surfacing live data, and supporting customer communications. Overroute says the system operates within carriers' existing tools and workflows rather than requiring new software adoption.

Overroute was developed through J.B. Hunt's partnership with UP.Labs, an initiative announced in October 2024 aimed at building startups to address challenges in freight transportation. Overroute is the first startup to emerge from that effort.

"We operate one of the most complex freight networks in North America, and that gives us a unique opportunity to take emerging technology and apply it at real scale," said Nick Hobbs, chief operating officer of J.B. Hunt. "Overroute is an example of a broader strategy where we're using AI as a force multiplier within our expansive network to reduce friction and improve how freight gets executed every day."

Alex Reed, CEO of Overroute, said the platform has been tested against real enterprise logistics complexity, including edge cases and human judgment scenarios. The company says it is now working with additional carriers and enterprise logistics operators ahead of further commercial deployments.
