ASP Isotopes unit signs uranium conversion research deal with Texas A&M
Quantum Leap Energy LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ASP Isotopes Inc. (NASDAQ: ASPI), has signed a research agreement with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) to study the commercial production of high-purity uranium hexafluoride (UF6), according to a press release dated July 21, 2026.
UF6 is a feedstock used in uranium enrichment and is produced through a process known as uranium conversion, which transforms yellowcake uranium (U3O8) into UF6. The agreement focuses on collecting physicochemical data on the reactions involved in that conversion process.
The research is intended to support efforts to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance scalability of uranium conversion technology. Results are expected to inform process design, modeling, and scale-up activities for Quantum Leap Energy's commercialization efforts.
"Uranium conversion is a critical link in the nuclear fuel cycle used throughout most of the world," said Dr. Ryno Pretorius, Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Leap Energy. "Today, the United States has only one operating commercial conversion facility, making the expansion of domestic conversion capabilities essential to strengthening our nation's energy security and reducing reliance on foreign sources."
Dr. Lin Shao, TEES Associate Agency Director and Professor of nuclear engineering, said the agreement pairs TEES research capabilities with Quantum Leap Energy's commercial efforts "generating the data and insights needed to support safer, more efficient, and more scalable nuclear fuel production."
Quantum Leap Energy describes itself as a development-stage nuclear fuels company focused on uranium conversion, uranium-235 enrichment, and isotopic separation, among other areas. The company holds exclusive global rights to the Aerodynamic Separation Process and Quantum Enrichment technologies.
