American Electric Power (NASDAQ: AEP) has elected David Marriott, Chairman of Marriott International, and Charles Meyers, Executive Chairman and former President and Chief Executive Officer of Equinix, to its board of directors, effective July 20, according to a company statement.

With the two appointments, AEP's board will comprise 12 directors, 11 of whom are independent.

David Marriott has served as a director of Marriott International since 2021 and as its chairman since 2022. He joined Marriott in 1999 and has held senior roles including President of U.S. Full Service Managed by Marriott, where he oversaw more than 330 hotels across 14 brands, and Chief Operations Officer for The Americas Eastern Region, where he was involved in the integration of Marriott's acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Meyers served as President and CEO of Equinix from 2018 to 2024 before being appointed Executive Chairman in June 2024. During his tenure as CEO, Equinix doubled its global data center footprint and quadrupled revenues, according to the statement.

"Charles and David are proven leaders whose experience aligns directly with AEP's strategy and complements the strong mix of skills already represented on our Board," said Bill Fehrman, AEP Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

AEP serves 5.6 million customers across 11 states and operates what it describes as the nation's largest electric transmission system, with 40,000 line miles.
