GM beats second-quarter estimates, raises full-year guidance
Investing.com -- General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) reported its second-quarter earnings before the open on Tuesday, topping consensus expectations.
Adjusted earnings per share of $3.57 surpassed the analyst consensus of $3.18, while revenue of $48.0 billion exceeded expectations of $46.99 billion. Revenue increased 1.9% YoY from $47.1 billion in the same period last year.
The automaker raised its full-year 2026 EBIT-adjusted guidance for the second time this year. GM now expects adjusted EPS of $12.00 to $14.00, with a midpoint of $13.00 that sits above the analyst consensus of $12.79.
The company also increased its adjusted EBIT guidance to $14.0 billion to $16.0 billion, up from the previous range of $13.5 billion to $15.5 billion. Adjusted automotive free cash flow guidance was raised to $9.5 billion to $11.5 billion from $9.0 billion to $11.0 billion.
Shares fell 3.3% following the results.
GM reported adjusted EBIT of $3.9 billion for the quarter, up 29.8% from $3.0 billion in the prior-year period. Net income attributable to stockholders was $1.3 billion, down from $1.9 billion a year earlier. The company's adjusted EBIT margin expanded to 8.2% from 6.4% in the second quarter of 2025.
GM North America delivered adjusted EBIT of $3.4 billion with an 8.6% margin, compared to $2.4 billion and a 6.1% margin in the year-ago quarter. GM International posted adjusted EBIT of $190 million, while China equity income reached $83 million. GM Financial contributed adjusted earnings before tax of $605 million.
Automotive operating cash flow for the quarter totaled $5.1 billion, up 9.0% YoY, while adjusted automotive free cash flow surged 78.0% to $5.0 billion from $2.8 billion.
The company's board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share, payable September 17, 2026, to shareholders of record as of September 4, 2026.
