TriLink BioTechnologies, LLC, a subsidiary of Maravai LifeSciences (NASDAQ: MRVI), has been granted a patent by China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) covering methods of synthesizing RNA molecules using its CleanCap capping analogs.

The patent, numbered ZL 2025 1 1246578.X, covers TriLink's full suite of CleanCap capping analogs, including its M6 analog. The allowed claims are directed to co-transcriptional RNA synthesis methods utilizing trimer or tetramer capping structures.

According to the company, CleanCap technology is now patented in China, the United States, the European Union, Australia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Canada. TriLink describes itself as the sole authorized manufacturer of CleanCap capping analogs.

Maravai LifeSciences Chief Executive Officer Bernd Brust said: "We are committed to defending our intellectual property rights, and this new patent represents an important tool in support of those efforts."

The technology enables co-transcriptional production of mRNAs containing cap structures found in humans. According to the press release, CleanCap technology has been used in commercially approved COVID-19 mRNA and saRNA vaccines and is used in drug development programs spanning mRNA therapeutics, oncology, infectious diseases, rare diseases, and cell and gene therapies.
