Monster Beverage downgraded to Hold as valuation seen limiting further upside
Investing.com -- Monster Beverage was downgraded to Hold from Buy by analysts at Deutsche Bank, who said the energy drink maker's recent share outperformance has left its valuation reflecting expectations that are difficult to exceed despite the company's strong operational momentum.
The brokerage raised its price target on the stock to $98 from its previous target but said the new target implies only about 1% upside, arguing that continued solid execution is already largely priced in. It added that any disappointment in category growth, retail sales trends, international expansion, pricing, or margin improvement could prompt a more significant pullback in the stock.
The downgrade reflects valuation concerns rather than weakening business fundamentals. Deutsche Bank said Monster Beverage continues to execute strongly across key growth drivers, but after the stock's recent rally, the risk-reward has become less favorable, with limited upside remaining unless the company delivers results that exceed already optimistic expectations.
Despite the downgrade, Deutsche Bank remained positive on Monster's long-term fundamentals and said its forecasts for fiscal 2026 and 2027 remain above Wall Street consensus.
The analysts said Monster continues to benefit from robust global demand for energy drinks, a strong innovation pipeline across the U.S. and Europe, improving revenue growth management capabilities, resilient international expansion, and growing traction in India and China. They said the company's recent stock outperformance has been well deserved but now leaves less room for additional gains.
