Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Philippine Airlines announced at the Farnborough Airshow that the Philippines flag carrier has committed to order up to 20 787 Dreamliner jets, in what the airline described as its largest ever widebody order.

The agreement, once finalized, covers 15 787-10 aircraft with an option to purchase five additional planes. Philippine Airlines said the order will support its fleet modernization and expansion plans, complementing its existing fleet of 10 777 jets.

The 787-10 is the largest variant of the 787 family, capable of carrying 300 to 375 passengers up to 13,890 kilometers (7,500 nautical miles).

Lucio C. Tan III, president and chief operating officer of PAL Holdings, Inc., said the Boeing 787-10 "will strengthen our medium and long-haul fleet" and support the airline's "long-term sustainability goals." He also noted that 2026 marks 80 years of partnership between Philippine Airlines and Boeing.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the selection "marks an important step forward in our partnership, one that spans 80 years."

Philippine Airlines operates nonstop flights from hubs in Manila and Cebu to 29 domestic destinations and 40 international destinations across Asia, North America, Australia, and the Middle East.
