July 20, 2026 6:21 AM

vesting.com -- BP announced Monday it has agreed to sell its mobility, convenience and electric vehicle charging operations in Austria to volenergy AG as part of efforts to streamline its business portfolio.

The transaction includes 250 BP-branded retail sites, with approximately 115 company-owned and franchise-operated locations, along with electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the associated fleet business. The sites will continue operating under the BP brand through a licensing agreement after the deal closes.

BP will sell 100% of its shares in BP Retail Austria GmbH, subject to regulatory approvals. The transaction also includes the Austrian fleet business and BP's stakes in three non-operated joint ventures: Erdöl-Lagergesellschaft m.b.H., Autobahn - Betriebe Gesellschaft m.b.H., and TLM Tanklager Management GmbH in Linz. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"By concentrating our capital on the assets and markets where BP can be most competitive and best serve customers, we are strengthening our balance sheet and creating a stronger downstream portfolio," said Richard Harding, interim EVP Downstream at BP.

Melanie Milchram-Pinter, head of country Austria at BP, said the company has built a strong mobility and convenience business in Austria over many decades and believes volenergy AG is positioned to take it forward.

The deal is expected to complete at the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. This follows BP's previous sales of mobility and convenience businesses in the Netherlands in 2025, Türkiye in 2024, and Switzerland in 2022.

BP's aviation business and Castrol operations in Austria are not included in the sale.
