A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near the coast of Chiapas, Mexico, at 14:49 UTC on Friday, July 17, 2026, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a statement indicating that hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the earthquake's epicenter, based on preliminary earthquake parameters.
