Clearmind Medicine Inc. (Nasdaq: CMND), a clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced results from an ex vivo mucoadhesion study showing its intranasal formulation of MEAI (5-Methoxy-2-aminoindane) retained a greater proportion of its dose on nasal tissue compared to a standard MEAI solution.

The study used freshly isolated rabbit nasal mucosa to evaluate how well the intranasal formulation adhered to nasal tissue over a 30-minute period. Both formulations were applied to tissue and exposed to a simulated nasal electrolyte solution. The intranasal MEAI formulation maintained a higher proportion of its initially adhered dose throughout the evaluation period compared to the non-mucoadhesive reference solution.

The company said the study is part of its development program for an intranasal formulation of MEAI aimed at treating Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). A stated objective of the program is to extend the residence time of MEAI within the nasal cavity to increase absorption opportunity before mucociliary clearance removes the formulation from the nasal surface.

Clearmind attributed the retention improvement to a mucoadhesive polymer system incorporated into the formulation. The company holds 32 granted patents across 19 patent families related to its compound portfolio.
