E*TRADE launches crypto spot trading for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana
E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley has completed the rollout of spot trading in digital assets, allowing eligible clients to buy, sell, and hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana directly on its platform in partnership with Zero Hash LLC, a digital asset infrastructure provider.
Trades are executed through a linked Zero Hash account at a fee of 50 basis points. Clients can view digital asset holdings alongside traditional investments, though transfer functionality is not yet available and is expected to launch later in 2026. Digital assets held through Zero Hash are not FDIC insured or SIPC protected, and all transactions and custody occur outside of Morgan Stanley.
Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) said digital asset services are expected to transition to Morgan Stanley Digital Trust, National Association, In Organization, its national trust bank.
The crypto launch is one of several platform updates E*TRADE announced. Others include a guided retirement planning tool powered by Morgan Stanley's Goals Planning System, fractional share trading across all E*TRADE platforms, an updated IPO Center, and a series of enhancements to the Power E*TRADE Pro desktop platform for active traders.
A Morgan Stanley Wealth Management survey of 940 self-directed and delegated investors, conducted April 1–20, 2026, found that 32% ranked "an established company I can trust" as the top factor when selecting a platform for crypto trading. The survey was administered by Dynata.
"With the rollout of crypto trading on E*TRADE we're advancing our digital assets strategy and bringing new capabilities to clients in an integrated way," said Chad Turner, Head of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Platforms.
