Gevo, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO) has appointed Todd Werpy, Ph.D., to its board of directors, effective August 20, according to a press release from the Englewood, Colorado-based company.

Werpy most recently served as chief science officer and a member of the executive committee at Archer-Daniels-Midland Company, where he worked on technology development, commercialization, and modernization programs involving automation and advanced process controls.

His background covers biotechnology, catalysis, process engineering, and commercialization of bio-based technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Michigan State University, completed the Harvard Business School Executive Leadership Program, and holds 36 U.S. patents and more than 100 patents globally. He is also a recipient of the American Chemical Society's Green Chemistry Award and is a co-author of the U.S. Department of Energy report, Top 12 Value-Added Chemicals from Biomass.

Gevo CEO Paul Bloom said in the statement that Werpy's "experience scaling technology, modernizing operations and transforming complex manufacturing organizations will strengthen our Board."
