Main Street Capital posts preliminary Q2 2026 estimates with NAV gain
Main Street Capital Corporation (NYSE: MAIN) released preliminary estimates for its second quarter 2026 operating results on July 16, 2026, ahead of its full earnings report scheduled for August 6, 2026.
The company estimates net investment income (NII) of $0.95 to $0.99 per share for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Distributable net investment income (DNII) is estimated at $1.02 to $1.06 per share, and DNII before taxes is estimated at $1.06 to $1.10 per share.
Net asset value (NAV) per share is preliminarily estimated at $33.88 to $33.96 as of June 30, 2026, up from $33.46 as of March 31, 2026. The increase of $0.42 to $0.50 per share, or 1.2% to 1.5%, came after a supplemental dividend of $0.30 per share paid in June 2026. The company attributed the NAV increase primarily to net fair value appreciation in its lower middle market and private loan investment portfolios, partially offset by fair value depreciation of its wholly-owned external investment manager.
Main Street estimates an annualized return on equity of over 18% for the second quarter. Investments on non-accrual status comprised 1.1% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and 4.0% at cost as of June 30, 2026.
During the quarter, the company made $95.7 million in total lower middle market portfolio investments, resulting in a net decrease of $30.6 million in that portfolio's cost basis. Private loan portfolio investments totaled $238.9 million, resulting in a net increase of $60.2 million in the private loan portfolio's cost basis.
Main Street has scheduled a conference call to discuss full second quarter results on August 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. The preliminary figures are subject to completion of quarter-end closing and review procedures and may differ materially from final reported results.
