Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB) announced the appointment of Michael J. Parini as Chief Legal Officer, effective August 3, 2026. Parini will join Biogen's Executive Committee and report to President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher A. Viehbacher, according to a press release from the Cambridge, Mass.-based company.

In the role, Parini will oversee Biogen's global legal and compliance functions.

Parini brings more than 20 years of senior legal and strategic leadership experience in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Spur Therapeutics, where he led a scientific strategy shift and advanced a rare disease program from pre-clinical stage into Phase 3 development.

Before Spur Therapeutics, Parini held several leadership positions at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, rising to Chief Administrative, Legal and Business Development Officer. In that role, he oversaw legal, compliance, business development, human resources, information technology, quality, and corporate communications. He was involved in the acquisitions of Exonics Therapeutics and Semma Therapeutics, and helped negotiate market access agreements for cystic fibrosis medicines in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Australia, and Spain.

Earlier in his career, Parini held senior roles in the legal function at Pfizer, including Chief Litigation Counsel.

Parini holds a J.D. and a B.A. in American Government and Politics, both from Georgetown University.
