MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS) announced the launch of MicroVision Semiconductor, Inc., a dedicated semiconductor organization headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, according to a company press release.

The new entity was formerly known as Black Forest Engineering, which MicroVision acquired from Luminar. The organization claims more than 30 years of semiconductor experience and a history of delivering over 300 custom mixed-signal integrated circuit designs across automotive, industrial, defense, aerospace, scientific, and commercial markets.

MicroVision Semiconductor will offer full ASIC development services spanning concept through production, including custom mixed-signal ASIC design, analog and pixel-oriented imaging architectures, radiation-hardened semiconductor designs, and manufacturing support through foundries including Tower Semiconductor, TSMC, and X-FAB.

"Semiconductors are becoming one of the most important differentiators in advanced perception systems," said Glen DeVos, Chief Executive Officer of MicroVision. "MicroVision Semiconductor gives us deep in-house expertise across custom ASIC development, mixed-signal design, testing, and production while continuing to serve an existing customer base with world-class integrated circuit development services."

The Colorado Springs unit will also support MicroVision's internal product development, including work on photonic integrated circuits for the company's frequency-modulated continuous-wave lidar initiatives. The organization will maintain its existing customer base across multiple industries while serving MicroVision's internal technology roadmap.

MicroVision described the launch as part of its "Lidar 2.0" strategy, which the company says is aimed at expanding beyond standalone sensors toward integrated perception systems combining hardware, semiconductors, photonics, and software.
