CBAK Energy reports customer testing progress for new LFP cells

July 14, 2026 8:04 AM

CBAK Energy Technology (NASDAQ: CBAT) reported that customer testing is underway for its two new full-tab cylindrical lithium iron phosphate cells — the 26650 HP V2.0 and 26650 PFS2 V2.0 — designed for battery backup unit and uninterruptible power supply applications in AI data centers.

According to the company, samples are being evaluated by customers, with early feedback indicating strong performance across key metrics. Multiple customers are advancing to joint module-level validation. International certification work relating to UL and CE requirements is also underway.

The cells were developed over a 15-month R&D program led by Huabin Dai, Deputy General Manager of Dalian CBAK Power Battery Co., a wholly owned subsidiary. Under internal laboratory testing, the 26650 HP V2.0 achieved a maximum discharge power of 260 watts, while the 26650 PFS2 V2.0 reached 310 watts. Internal resistance was measured at approximately 2–3 milliohms, compared with approximately 6–7 milliohms for conventional multi-tab cells, according to the company's internal assessments.

CBAK Energy said the 26650 format offers more than 20% higher capacity per cell compared with smaller 18-series and 21-series cylindrical cells, which it estimates can reduce cell count by approximately 20% for equivalent pack capacity. The company also estimates the design could reduce thermal-management costs by 5% to 10% and extend system service life by 10% to 15% compared with multi-tab alternatives, though it noted actual results may vary depending on system design and operating conditions.

The company said it has secured long-term supply agreements with key materials partners and is evaluating overseas supply-chain options. CBAK Energy is also working with system integrators and UPS original equipment manufacturers on application-specific cell solutions.

The information is based on a press release statement issued by the company on July 14, 2026.
