The City of San Diego and CitroTech Inc. (NYSE American: CITR) announced funding to expand a wildfire prevention program that used CitroTech's fire inhibitor product across high-risk areas, according to a company press release.

A $1.5 million state grant from California District 76 will fund the expansion, with $200,000 allocated to purchase CitroTech product. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department plans to more than double deployment of the inhibitor to additional high-risk communities, former encampment sites, and critical evacuation corridors.

The expansion follows a 2025 pilot funded by a $367,000 grant from the San Diego River Conservancy. That pilot treated 467 acres in the San Diego River watershed across more than 36 former encampment sites. The program, which also included brush management and weed abatement, reported a 39% reduction in encampment-related fires and zero reignitions in treated areas.

"As a result, we saw a measurable 39% reduction overall," said Tony Tosca, Deputy Chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. "CitroTech has shown itself to be an effective tool for reducing fire risk in locations where traditional fuel management staffing and funding is limited."

All treated sites are mapped and publicly viewable through the City's ArcGIS platform.

CitroTech claims its product is the only long-term fire inhibitor recognized under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Safer Choice program and the first to meet Clean Water Act standards. The company states its formulation does not introduce heavy metals or harmful chemicals into ecosystems.
