Vishay launches compact automotive optocoupler in narrower SOP-5 package
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has introduced the VOMHA43A, an automotive 1 MBd high speed optocoupler housed in a SOP-5 package with a 3.6 mm width, narrower than the 4.4 mm width of previous SOP-5 packages.
The AEC-Q102 qualified device carries a minimum common mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 40 kV/µS and a maximum repetitive peak isolation voltage of 707 Vpeak, the latter meeting the requirements of 400 V battery systems. The company claims the CMTI rating is more than double that of the closest competing device, which it says offers a maximum repetitive peak isolation voltage of 567 Vpeak.
The optocoupler is designed for isolated data communication, fast signal switching, ground signal isolation, and logic voltage level shifting. Target applications include electric vehicles (EV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and low speed electric vehicles (LSEV), where the device can provide communication bus isolation for CAN, LIN, I²C, and SPI interfaces, as well as isolated drive circuit applications such as intelligent power module drivers.
The VOMHA43A combines a GaAlAs infrared emitting diode with an integrated photodetector and high speed transistor. It includes a Faraday shield on the detector chip to reject high input-to-output common mode transient voltages, and features an open collector output to allow load condition adjustments when interfacing with different logic systems.
The device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and operates over a temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. It is described as pin-to-pin compatible with competing parts, allowing direct replacement without electrical or mechanical redesign.
Samples and production quantities are currently available, with a lead time of six weeks, according to a press release from the company.
