Palantir partnership fails to save Rackspace stock after brutal guidance slash

July 9, 2026 8:12 AM

Investing.com -- A major AI team-up wasn’t enough to cushion the blow for Rackspace Technology (NASDAQ: RXT). Shares plummeted over 10% Thursday after the cloud operator severely dialed back its fiscal 2026 revenue projections, completely overshadowing a high-profile strategic partnership with Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) announced earlier in the day.

The San Antonio-based enterprise AI infrastructure provider aggressively trimmed its fiscal 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $2.45 billion to $2.55 billion, down from its previous forecast of $2.6 billion to $2.7 billion. Profit outlooks took a parallel hit, with adjusted EBITDA expectations lowered to $285 million–$295 million, down from the prior $305 million–$315 million range.

Management attributed the steep $150 million top-line haircut to a deliberate retreat from low-margin businesses, coupled with broader industry shifts:

The immediate numbers only added to Wall Street’s anxiety. For the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Rackspace expects revenue to land between $641 million and $649 million—falling short of the $657 million consensus estimate. On the bottom line, it anticipates an adjusted loss per share of $0.08 to $0.11, compared to the estimated $0.11 loss per share.

Preliminary Q2 numbers break down as follows:

MetricPreliminary Q2 Outlook
Public Cloud Revenue$399 million – $403 million
Private Cloud Revenue$242 million – $246 million
Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA$58 million – $62 million

The bitter guidance pill spoiled what otherwise would have been a celebratory day. Rackspace announced a definitive pact to deploy Palantir’s flagship Foundry and AIP platforms into mid-market, regulated, and sovereign environments. The technical integration is moving at a sprint: Rackspace has already secured roughly 400 Palantir certifications and closed its first joint deployment in under two months.
