Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI) announced the launch of Kubernetes Edge AI appliances developed in collaboration with Red Hat and Everpure, according to a company press release dated July 8, 2026.

The turnkey appliance combines Red Hat OpenShift, a Kubernetes-based hybrid cloud application platform, with Portworx by Everpure, a Kubernetes-native storage and data management platform. Supermicro delivers the solution to customers preloaded with both software and hardware.

Portworx by Everpure provides software-defined storage that aggregates local storage on Supermicro's edge servers into what the company describes as a self-healing data platform capable of operating during network outages. The approach is intended to eliminate the need for dedicated array-based storage hardware at each edge site.

"AI inferencing at the edge requires more than just hardware—it demands a validated, scalable platform that customers can deploy with confidence," said Vik Malyala, chief business officer at Supermicro.

Kelly Switt, senior director of Intelligent Edge and Industrial Business Lead at Red Hat, said the collaboration aims to provide "a supported, integrated, and high-performance solution that accelerates their time-to-value for AI inferencing at the edge."

Greg Muscarella, general manager of Portworx by Everpure, said the solution is designed to scale to thousands of sites "without the need for on-site IT expertise."

The appliance is intended for deployment in distributed edge environments such as retail stores and factory floors, where traditional data center storage infrastructure is not practical.
