U.S. Air Force deploys Salesforce platform to manage 84,000 vehicles
Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) announced that the U.S. Air Force 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron (VSCOS) is using the company's Missionforce National Security platform to manage a $13.5 billion fleet of more than 84,000 vehicles across nearly 389 locations worldwide.
The 85-person squadron, which supports over 7,300 personnel, adopted the platform after its legacy fleet management system was scheduled to be retired. The new system runs on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus Defense and carries an IL5 authorization, a security classification required for certain sensitive government workloads.
According to the company, the deployment has consolidated data from previously fragmented enterprise resource planning systems into a single interface. The squadron has used the platform to process more than 51,000 asset movement requests. A new application called MELRAT, built on Salesforce for contingency planning, has reduced the time needed to identify eligible vehicle inventory for contingencies from days to minutes, per the announcement.
The squadron is also exploring AI use cases, including automating manual data entry, validating vehicle identification numbers, and analyzing sensor data to predict maintenance needs.
Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, said the deployment has delivered "improved visibility for commanders, reduced service downtime, and helping ensure vehicles are ready to roll when the call comes."
The announcement follows a $72 million enterprise license agreement with the Department of the Air Force and a separate $5.6 billion indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with the U.S. Army, both previously disclosed by Salesforce.
