Protolabs (NYSE: PRLB) has expanded its manufacturing capabilities targeting the drone industry, adding enhanced CNC machining and Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing capacity through a partnership with HP Additive.

According to a company statement, revenue from Protolabs' drone customers has grown more than 90% since 2023, with a compound annual growth rate of nearly 40%.

The expanded CNC machining capabilities allow for tighter tolerances, greater precision, and a broader range of functional and cosmetic finishes on end-use metal and plastic parts. The MJF 3D printing expansion uses Nylon PA-12 to produce lightweight components such as ducts, housings, brackets, and snap-fit enclosures for drone applications.

The global drone industry is currently valued at up to $69 billion and is projected to reach $140 billion within the next decade, representing a compound annual growth rate of 9.5%, according to market researchers cited in the statement.

Protolabs' U.S. facilities are registered under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and hold AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications. The company serves all Fortune 100 aerospace companies, according to its statement.

Protolabs plans to display its drone manufacturing capabilities at the Commercial UAV Expo, scheduled for Sept. 1–3 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
