Dyadic receives full $3.1M Gates grant, advances C1 platform work
Dyadic International, Inc. (Nasdaq: DYAI), operating as Dyadic Applied BioSolutions, has received the full $3.1 million Gates Foundation grant, including a final payment of $738,743 in June 2026, to fund research on its C1 protein production platform for monoclonal antibody applications targeting RSV and malaria.
According to a company statement, studies have shown that monoclonal antibodies produced using the C1 platform demonstrated binding and neutralization characteristics comparable to those produced with traditional CHO cell systems, while achieving higher production yields at lower projected manufacturing costs. The company also reported that multiple production runs were completed within the time typically required for a single CHO manufacturing cycle.
As part of a separate $4.5 million collaboration with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena (FBS), researchers demonstrated plasmid-to-purified-protein production in approximately 15 days using the C1 platform.
In a collaboration with Scripps Research focused on Bundibugyo Ebola preparedness, Dyadic expects to deliver initial purified antigen samples by the end of July 2026 for evaluation in non-mRNA vaccine studies.
"The real challenge is translating a genetic sequence or plasmid to high-quality product that can be developed and manufactured rapidly, affordably and at scale," said Mark Emalfarb, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dyadic.
The company also participates in preparedness initiatives involving the European Vaccines Hub and FBS targeting Ebola, hantavirus, and other emerging infectious diseases.
