AbbVie updates 2026 EPS guidance after $291M IPR&D charge

July 6, 2026 4:14 PM

AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) has disclosed a $291 million pre-tax acquired in-process research and development (IPR&D) and milestones expense for the second quarter of 2026, which the company says will reduce both GAAP and adjusted non-GAAP diluted earnings per share by $0.17.

The company noted that results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 have not been finalized and remain subject to financial statement closing procedures. AbbVie cautioned that final results may differ from the preliminary estimates.

Following the charge, AbbVie revised its full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance to a range of $13.91 to $14.11. The company's second-quarter 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance range is $3.57 to $3.61, both figures incorporating the impact of the IPR&D and milestones expense.

AbbVie had previously issued its 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance on April 29, 2026, excluding the impact of any IPR&D and milestones expense that might be incurred after the first quarter of 2026. The company stated it does not forecast such expenses due to uncertainty around the timing and occurrence of collaborations, licensing agreements, and other asset acquisitions.
