Rogers to buy remaining 25% of MLSE from Kilmer Sports for C$4.35B
Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: RCI.A, RCI.B; NYSE: RCI) has signed an agreement to acquire the remaining 25% ownership stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) from Kilmer Sports Inc. for C$4.35 billion, bringing Rogers to 100% ownership of the sports and entertainment organization.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to league approvals. Rogers said it intends to finance the deal using its committed liquidity.
MLSE's portfolio includes the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC, and the Toronto Argonauts, among other properties. Rogers already holds sports assets including the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre, and Sportsnet, as well as strategic partnerships with the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, the NHL, the NBA, MLB, and Live Nation.
"This is a defining moment for Rogers. Our full ownership of MLSE brings together Canada's premier communications company with Canada's premier sports and entertainment organization," said Tony Staffieri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers.
Rogers also disclosed plans to sell a minority stake in its consolidated sports, media, and entertainment assets within the next year, a move previously announced by the company.
Edward Rogers, Executive Chair, acknowledged the outgoing stakeholder: "We want to recognize Larry Tanenbaum for his contributions to MLSE and to sports in Toronto."
