AECOM (NYSE: ACM) has been appointed by contractor Murphy as the exclusive design partner for a £340 million upgrade of Thames Water's Oxford Sewage Treatment Works in the UK, according to a press release from the company.

The project is part of Thames Water's capital works program under the UK's Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8). The upgrade is expected to increase treatment capacity by approximately 40% and includes upgrades to power supplies, storm tank capacity, and sewage treatment flows. Treated effluent from the facility is discharged into the River Thames.

AECOM will provide multidisciplinary design services for the scheme. The company previously worked with Murphy and Kier on Thames Water's Deephams Sewage Treatment Works upgrade in London.

"Upgrading these major sewage treatment works is critical for facilitating growth and protecting the environment for communities in Oxfordshire," said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of AECOM's global Water business.

David Mayfield, senior project manager at Thames Water, said the upgrade is intended to enhance capacity, reduce storm overflows, and improve the long-term resilience of the wastewater network in Oxfordshire.

The Oxford project adds to a series of AMP8-related contract wins for AECOM in the UK water sector, which the company says also includes work on Thames Water's approximately $540 million professional services framework and Southern Water's $4.8 billion capital delivery program. AECOM reported revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025.
