Vishay launches multi-turn position sensor at 40% lower cost
Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) has introduced the Vishay Sfernice 34 PHE, a multi-turn absolute position sensor using non-contacting Hall Effect technology, according to a company press release.
The 34 PHE features linearity down to ±1% full stroke, a resolution of 1°, and a rated lifespan of more than 10 million cycles. The device fits in a 22.2 mm diameter body and covers a total electrical angle of 3,600° across 10 turns. Vishay says the sensor is priced 40% lower than previous-generation devices.
The sensor is designed for use in industrial motor and actuator displacement tracking, solar panel linear actuators, flow control valve positioning, and throttle and pedal position sensors for agricultural machinery, railway equipment, and marine applications.
For operation in harsh environments, the 34 PHE carries an IP65 sealing rating and withstands vibrations up to 20 g and shocks up to 50 g. The device includes integrated reverse voltage and overvoltage input protections and supports single or dual analog ratiometric or digital PWM output signals. Dual outputs provide built-in fault detection for functional safety compliance.
The sensor operates as a "true power on" device, reporting position immediately upon power-up without recalibration or initialization, eliminating the need for battery backup. It operates at a supply voltage of 5 VDC ±10% with a typical supply current of less than 8.5 mA for single output configurations. The device is RoHS-compliant.
