Telesat donates satellite capacity for Venezuela earthquake relief
Telesat Corporation (Nasdaq: TSAT) announced it is donating satellite capacity to Venezuelan telecommunications company Top Comunications to support disaster recovery efforts following earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week.
Telesat GEO Inc., a subsidiary of Telesat Corporation, will provide high-throughput capacity on its Telstar 19 VANTAGE satellite. Top Comunications will use the capacity to help restore communications infrastructure and support emergency coordination for government entities, first responders, and mobile network operators.
"Satellite connectivity plays a critical role in the aftermath of a natural disaster like this one," said Glenn Katz, Telesat's Chief Commercial Officer. "This was an immediate way for us to contribute to the ongoing disaster recovery efforts with our partners on the ground, and we're honoured to support Venezuelans as they work to recover and rebuild."
The announcement was made from Ottawa, Ontario, according to a company press release.
