ICE and Nativx plan GPU compute futures tied to energy index

July 1, 2026 8:30 AM

Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE) and Nativx announced plans to launch GPU compute futures contracts based on Nativx's COIL Index, which tracks the price of tokenized, energy-normalized compute and connectivity.

The contracts will be U.S. dollar denominated and cash-settled. They are expected to launch later in 2026, subject to completion of relevant regulatory processes.

The COIL Index is designed to track tokenized GPU compute prices normalized to a consistent energy unit, which Nativx says removes the effect of regional power cost differences. The index includes sub-indices covering training, inference, graphics, and connectivity.

Trabue Bland, SVP of Futures Markets at ICE, said the contracts "will offer price discovery for customers globally through a hedgeable index that will benefit from trading alongside ICE's natural gas and power futures contracts."

The new contracts are set to be listed alongside ICE's existing power and natural gas futures, allowing compute operators and consumers to manage GPU exposure in the same venue where they hedge energy costs.

Cole Crawford, Founder and Chairman of Nativx, said the partnership aims to give compute "the transparent and regulated venue it has been missing."

Nativx is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and operates on technology licensed from Synova Global. According to a press release from ICE, Synova Global develops the core index, exchange, and settlement technology underlying the Nativx platform.
