Adeia Inc. (Nasdaq: ADEA) has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against FuboTV Inc. (NYSE: FUBO) and certain of its subsidiaries in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, according to a press release from Adeia.

The complaint alleges that FuboTV infringes four U.S. patents in Adeia's media intellectual property portfolio. The patents relate to technologies that enable features of media delivery and streaming services used across video platforms.

Adeia chief executive Paul E. Davis said in a statement: "Our media technologies are broadly licensed across the pay-TV industry, and we remain open to a resolution with Fubo that appropriately recognizes the value of our innovations. We believe we were left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect our intellectual property which reflects decades of research, development and investment."

Adeia noted that Disney is a controlling shareholder of FuboTV, but said its previously announced settlement and license agreement with Disney is separate from the claims in this lawsuit. The company described the litigation as a distinct matter between Adeia and FuboTV.

Adeia states it holds a portfolio of more than 13,750 worldwide patent assets accumulated over four decades of research and development by the company and its predecessor companies.
