D-Wave wins $1.57M NSF grant for fault-tolerant quantum project
D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) has been selected to receive a $1,566,250 grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation through its National Quantum Virtual Laboratory program, the company announced.
The funding supports D-Wave's participation as an industry partner in ERASE (Erasure Qubits and Dynamic Circuits for Quantum Advantage), a project led by Yale University that focuses on developing foundational technologies for fault-tolerant quantum computing. The grant moves ERASE into the second phase of the NSF's NQVL program.
D-Wave, through its New Haven, Connecticut-based subsidiary Quantum Circuits, LLC, will provide ERASE researchers with access to its superconducting dual-rail gate-model quantum computing resources. Researchers will be able to explore software, compiler, and error-correction approaches through selected development interfaces and APIs on D-Wave's platform.

The project also includes workforce development efforts with academic and industry partners. D-Wave's dual-rail gate-model technology traces back to Yale University, where it was developed through Quantum Circuits, Inc., a Yale startup that D-Wave later acquired.
The NSF grant follows D-Wave's previously announced Letter of Intent for $100 million in proposed CHIPS and Science Act funding aimed at accelerating development of its annealing and gate-model quantum computing systems.
