Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) has received multiple prototype orders for its Sentinel First Person Viewer (FPV) headset from customers competing in the U.S. Government's Drone Dominance Program (DDP), according to a company press release.

The DDP is a U.S. government initiative aimed at expanding domestic small-drone and FPV capabilities while reducing reliance on foreign-made technology. FPV headsets allow drone operators to view real-time footage as if seated inside the aircraft.

Kopin states its Sentinel FPV platform features dual situational awareness, allowing a pilot to simultaneously view the drone's camera feed and their immediate physical surroundings. The company says the product is manufactured in the United States and is designed for defense applications.

Volume orders are expected to begin in late August, following DDP Phase 2 evaluations and awards. The company stated that program winners could require tens of thousands of FPV headsets.

"These new prototype orders validate the strength of our dual-situational-awareness design and our commitment to building trusted, defense-ready solutions here in the United States," said Kopin CEO Michael Murray. "Each engagement has the potential to scale into significant volume."

Kopin said it continues to pursue partnerships with drone manufacturers and system integrators. The Westborough, Massachusetts-based company develops microdisplays and optical systems for defense, enterprise, and consumer markets.
