Bed Bath & Beyond outlines plan to connect housing services

June 29, 2026 8:02 AM

Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (NYSE: BBBY) published a position paper responding to the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, outlining the company's stated intention to expand from retail into a broader homeownership platform.

Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Marcus Lemonis authored the paper, arguing that the systems Americans use to buy, finance, maintain, and sell homes operate in isolation from one another. "The homeowner is at the center of the largest financial decision of their life, and no single company is truly helping them understand, operate, improve, protect, finance, and profit from that home over time," Lemonis said. "We intend to be that company."

The paper describes four layers the company plans to build: Neighborhood Intelligence, described as a data layer; Beyond Home, framed as a homeowner relationship layer; Beyond Home Services, positioned as an execution layer; and Beyond Omni, described as a commerce layer.

Lemonis drew a contrast with existing real estate data platforms. "Zillow estimates homes," he said. "We intend to understand neighborhoods."

The paper identifies several housing challenges it claims to address, including constrained supply, uneven lending access, aging housing stock, and limited guidance for veterans and first-time buyers.

Bed Bath & Beyond's retail portfolio includes Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuy BABY, Overstock, and Kirkland's, along with a pending merger with The Container Store. The company also holds stakes in blockchain and data infrastructure businesses, including tZERO and GrainChain.
