Aqua Capital lifts Energizer (ENR) stake to 7.34M shares as stock trades at 7.9x P/E

June 29, 2026 7:40 AM

Investing.com – Energizer Holdings (NYSE: ENR) is dipping 1.99% to $22.19 in pre-market trading Monday, even as a major shareholder quietly accumulates stock at a pace that underscores a deepening valuation gap between ENR and its household-products peers.

Aqua Capital, Ltd. purchased 40,000 ENR shares on June 22 at an average price of $21.10 per share, a total outlay of roughly $844,000, lifting its total position to 7.34 million shares. The buy follows two prior purchases by the same firm: 40,000 shares at $21.54 on June 18 and 35,686 shares on June 3, pointing to a deliberate, price-insensitive accumulation strategy rather than opportunistic dip-buying.

The backdrop for that conviction is striking. Simply Wall St reported on June 27 that ENR trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of just 7.9x, against an estimated fair P/E of 13.3x and a household-products peer-group average of 25.5x. A discounted-cash-flow model cited by the outlet places intrinsic value at roughly $94.14 per share, implying what it calls a potential 76% undervaluation at current prices. Energizer's market capitalization sits at approximately $1.55 billion, a figure weighed down by a heavy debt load accumulated through past acquisitions.

For investors seeking a direct equity handle, ENR itself is the primary vehicle. The company — maker of Energizer and Rayovac batteries and Armor All auto-care products, is the subject of the accumulation and the valuation debate, and any re-rating would flow directly to its share price.

The valuation case has grown more complex in recent months. Energizer's Q2 fiscal 2026 results, reported May 5, 2026, showed EPS of $0.94 against a consensus of $0.47, a 100% beat that helped fuel a recovery from the stock's November 2025 lows. Revenue of $643.3 million, however, missed the $664.2 million forecast by roughly 3.2%, a reminder that top-line headwinds remain real. The stock has surged about 21.5% over the past month and 33.1% over the past 90 days as it climbs back from a near-24% single-session collapse last November following a weaker-than-expected Q4 print. ENR's 52-week range of $15.75 to $30.29 captures the full arc of that selloff and partial recovery.

The consumer backdrop adds another layer of uncertainty. "It's really pointing to that fatigued consumer," Sonia Lapinsky, managing director of retail at Alix Partners, told Reuters on June 27. "They're not necessarily spending more, they're just trying to spread what they have over better deals and discounts." Batteries are a staple purchase, but Energizer's Armor All auto-care line and some adjacent categories are more discretionary, making revenue visibility harder to nail down.

Friday's session offered some encouragement: ENR added 1.3% on volume of roughly 1.4 million shares, above the stock's three-month daily average of approximately 1.12 million shares. Pre-market Monday has given back some of that ground, though the move of less than 2% on no fresh corporate news likely reflects broad market flows rather than any specific catalyst.

The next major test comes August 10, when Energizer is tentatively scheduled to report Q3 fiscal 2026 earnings. The EPS consensus stands at $0.83, and the direction of recent analyst revisions raises the risk of another revenue miss even if the company manages to beat on the bottom line. Separately, the U.S. June payrolls report due July 3 could shape the broader consumer-staples trade: a stronger-than-expected jobs number might reinforce rate-hike expectations from the Federal Reserve, which would pressure highly leveraged names like ENR disproportionately. Investors will need both a continued earnings recovery and some relief on the interest-rate front to close the gap between ENR's current multiple and where peers are trading
