Solidion Technology plans to buy SpaceX shares as treasury asset
Solidion Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: STI), an advanced battery materials company based in Dallas, Texas, announced plans to opportunistically acquire shares of SpaceX as a long-term strategic treasury holding, according to a company press release.
The company said the initial allocation would represent a modest portion of its current cash on hand and is not expected to interfere with core operations or planned capital expenditures. SpaceX shares would be carried on Solidion's balance sheet as a strategic investment.
Solidion cited thematic alignment between its battery technology business and SpaceX's aerospace, satellite communications, and transportation programs as a rationale for the investment. The company develops silicon anode, graphene-enhanced, and bipolar solid-state battery technologies, which it says are designed for energy density and safety requirements relevant to aerospace applications.
Chief Executive Officer Jaymes Winters commented: "This is not a speculative trade — it is a deliberate decision to place a small but meaningful vote of confidence in a company shaping the future of the industries we serve."
The company did not disclose a specific dollar amount for the initial allocation or a timeline for acquiring the shares. SpaceX is a privately held company, and shares are typically accessed through secondary market transactions.
Solidion holds a portfolio of over 385 patents and operates pilot production facilities in Dayton, Ohio, in addition to its Dallas headquarters.
