U.S. Space Force awards Boeing up to $2B satellite contract

June 25, 2026 2:14 PM

The U.S. Space Force has selected Boeing (NYSE: BA) for the Mobile User Objective System Service Life Extension (MUOS SLE) program, awarding a contract valued at up to $2 billion to develop two narrowband communications satellites for military use.

The contract covers satellites designed to provide secure voice and data communications for military personnel operating on land, at sea, and in the air. The first satellite is scheduled for delivery in 2031.

The MUOS SLE program is intended to sustain and extend a communications system currently used by military forces globally, including in areas where maintaining reliable connections is difficult, such as dense urban environments, challenging terrain, and severe weather conditions.

"We're grateful for the trust the U.S. Space Force has placed in our team for a capability that matters to military users around the world," said Sam Greaves, vice president of Boeing Space Mission Systems.

Boeing previously contributed to the existing MUOS constellation by developing and delivering its payloads. The new satellites will be built on Boeing's 702MP medium-class spacecraft platform. According to the press release, Boeing has delivered multiple 702MP satellites since the fourth quarter of 2025.

"When military users are operating in the most demanding conditions, this narrowband capability is their lifeline," said Ryan Reid, senior director of Space Communications Programs at Boeing.
