June 25, 2026 9:04 AM

MISTRAS Group (NYSE: MG) announced the expansion of its Houston, Texas in-house laboratory, adding new equipment and services targeting aerospace and defense manufacturing customers.

The facility has added aerospace casting weld repair and rework capabilities qualified to AWS D17.1 requirements, along with precision grinding, cutting, metal finishing, and component restoration services. New inspection equipment includes dedicated immersion ultrasonic tanks for forgings, rotary ultrasonic inspection systems for bar, billet, and forging examinations, fluorescent penetrant inspection, ultrasonic cleaning, DI water processing, and a 320kV X-ray digital radiography system.

The Houston lab already offers film and computed radiography, 6-MeV linear accelerators, magnetic particle testing, alloy PMI, and hardness testing, with 25-ton crane capacity. The facility holds ISO 9001 certification, Prime certifications, and ITAR compliance. The company said it expects the lab to achieve NADCAP accreditation in quality management systems, welding, radiographic testing, penetrant testing, and ultrasonic testing in late 2026.

"These new capabilities significantly expand the range of components and customer needs we can support directly from one location," said Cliff Schaffer, Senior Vice President of In-Lab Services at MISTRAS.

Natalia Shuman, President and CEO of MISTRAS Group, said the investments are intended to "improve throughput, expand service depth, and support long-term earnings power" as part of the company's strategy in the aerospace and defense sector.
