BlackBerry surges on earnings beat and strong cash flow
Investing.com -- BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) reported first quarter fiscal 2027 results that exceeded analyst expectations, sending shares over 7% higher premarket.
Adjusted earnings per share of $0.04 beat the consensus estimate of $0.03, while revenue of $152.9 million surpassed the $133.85 million estimate. Revenue increased 26% YoY from the prior year period, while the company achieved its first fiscal first quarter of positive operating cash flow in nine years.
The company posted adjusted EBITDA of $36.3 million, up 144% YoY, with both its QNX and Secure Communications segments achieving Rule of 40 performance. BlackBerry generated $4.6 million in operating cash flow and reported GAAP net income of $8.5 million, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of profitability.
The company repurchased 2.6 million shares for $10.0 million during the quarter and ended with $422.9 million in cash and investments.

For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, BlackBerry expects adjusted EPS of $0.03-$0.04, with a midpoint of $0.035 slightly below the consensus of $0.04. The company guides for second quarter revenue of $137-$148 million, with a midpoint of $142.5 million above the consensus of $140.8 million.
For the full fiscal year 2027, BlackBerry projects adjusted EPS of $0.16-$0.20, with a midpoint of $0.18 matching the consensus estimate. Full-year revenue guidance of $594-$621 million has a midpoint of $607.5 million, slightly above the consensus of $601.9 million. The company expects approximately $100 million in operating cash flow for the fiscal year.
